Cooking Grizzly Indian Style
By: Phil Scriver, LC200 Historian
Cooking meat was always a problem for travelers on the frontier. There was no quick easy method, but everyone continually searched for different ways that would retain the flavor and tenderness and hopefully take a shorter amount of time. Captain Lewis was a keen observer of the methods used by the Nez Perce. He liked all the results their way produced except for the taste.
