These activities can be arranged to suit any visitor’s needs.During the summer months of June through August, Lightning Creek offers one-half day, full-day horseback trail rides and overnight pack trips. We offer horses for beginners as well as the seasoned rider. Our guided horseback trail rides take place in the rugged and beautiful Bitterroot Mountains by special permit with the US Forest Service. Wildlife encounters are common occurrences on these trips. Overnight horseback pack trips are available and range from two to four days. All food and gear, except for sleeping bags and personal items, are provided. Camps consist of comfortable wall-tent style base camps, where we ride or hike to remote alpine lakes, streams and wildlife viewing areas for a picnic lunch, later returning to camp where a well prepared meal awaits.We also offer progressive horseback pack trips which consist of low-impact camps that can be moved every day to a new location several miles down the trail.We also offer backpack trips into wilderness areas for those wanting a little more physical exercise. These trips are low-impact with the idea of escaping everyday city life. They can be guided trips (utilizing pack stock and all food and gear included, except sleeping bags and personal items) or self-guided trips with drop-off and pick-up by our staff.Any trip can be specially arranged to meet your specific needs and desires, including a combination of all the above activities.During the fall months of September through November, big game hunts for elk and mule deer are available in the area."
