Description: The Red Lodge Jaycees will host the Fat Tire Frenzy scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, July 27 and 28, 2002 in Red Lodge, Montana.The Fat Tire Frenzy is hosted in conjunction with the Yellowstone Valley Cycle Club of Billings and is a National Off Road Bike Association, NORBA sanctioned race. It is a two day event that has four different events; the Downhill, Criterion, Cross Country Race and the Observed Trials.Saturday morning, the Downhill Race will take place on the Silver Run Road south of Red Lodge. Later that afternoon, the Criterion will take place on the streets of Red Lodge. This is a speed race encompassing several city blocks of Red Lodge where the riders compete for fastest lap time prizes and overall fastest times.Sunday morning, the Cross Country Race will take on the Silver Run Cross-Country trail south of Red Lodge. The Beginners Run is a six mile course consisting of one lap of the Silver Run trail. The Sports Run is a 15 mile course which is one lap of the large Silver Run Trail, then back up to the Ingles Creek Trail, up that hill for two miles back down to the finish. The Experts Run is a 22 mile course which includes all of the Sports Trail but with two laps on the Ingles Creek Trail.That afternoon there is the Observed Trials event. This event tests the balance skills of the riders. The Trials is a type of obstacle course where the riders maneuver over and around objects such as picnic tables, utility spools, junk cars, balance beams and complete jumps. The riders are penalized each time they are forced to touch the ground. It is really a fun and exciting skill test for the riders and the public. This event will be held on the street between Snow Creek and Frank’s Meats.Registration will take place Friday afternoon, July 26 at the Chamber of Commerce or one hour prior to each event at the event site. These are fun events, so plan on being in Red Lodge July 27 and 28 to participate or be out watching these events and cheering on the riders.
