The Blacktail Ranch is an 8,000 acre jewel, located at the base of the Continental Divide, where the Rockies meet the prairie.

The South Fork of the Dearborn River flows through the center of the ranch feeding rich meadows and deep, lush aspen groves.

Above the riverbed unspoiled acres of pine and fir roll into broad fields of native grasses and wildflowers. Come and find out what many already know The Blacktail is hands down the prettiest ranch around.

The Blacktail Ranch was first homesteaded by our grandfather in the 1880’s. Our family has lived and worked in this valley ever since, we have also been offering a variety of vacation options since the 1950’s. We are not new to the guest business and know how to take care of all your individual needs.

A few of the things our guest enjoy are, an exceptionally beautiful mountain ranch, daily unlimited horseback riding, first class accommodations, three healthy, wholesome meals a day and of course great fishing .

Our large string of horses are able to accommodate a wide variety of riding skills. Both riding and roping instructions are available. In the Spring and Fall join us for moving cattle to and from the high country. Mid season help rotate the cattle's pastures and if you like, Sign on for a three day two night “Divide Ride”. Where you can experience spectacular and expansive views from the rim of the Continental Divide.

Fishing opportunity are plentiful at the Blacktail Ranch. The South Fork of Dearborn runs through the Ranch a short drive away will bring you to the Missouri River, the Main Dearborn River and the famous “ A River Runs Through It” Blackfoot River.

The Blacktail is rich with archaeological sites including an extensive cave system dating back to the Ice Age, a Sun Wheel, a Medicine Wheel and numerous tipi rings from more recent native visitors. The ranch museum houses artifacts from the cave and from the Ranch’s homesteading era. All of these sites can be toured during your stay.

Directions and/or Additional Information:
We are located 65 miles south of Great Falls, and 55 miles northwest of Helena. Glacier and Yellowstone national Parks are both a half day drive away. The Helena National Forest borders the upper end of the ranch, making us truly the last place on the road.

Local Attractions: Gates of the Mountains just south of the little town of Wolf Creek is a very informative and beautiful tour of this part of the Missouri River. Lewis and Clark named this section of the river and it is a half day trip you will long remember.
Historical Helena (Montana's capital) hosts the State Historical Society Museum and tour train and western art fans and history buffs will not want to miss the wonderful Charlie Russell Museum in Great Falls.
The just completed Rivers Edge Trail and Giant Springs are just a couple of parks and walkways in and around Great Falls and the Missouri River. The Lewis and Clark interpretive center is opened and ready for your viewing pleasure. Also in our neighborhood is Ulm Pishkun State Park, which is possibly the longest buffalo jump in the world.
