The Great Bear Affair Website info@greatbearaffair.org BigSkyMontana.us BigSkyMontana.us Description: During the summer and fall of 2002 a unique outdoor art exhibition, The Great Bear Affair, will be coming to the Flathead Valley. Following in the tracks of the successful Moose on the Loose fund raiser in the summer of 2000 and inspired by the popular Cows on Parade in Chicago, the project matches 20 life-size fiberglass grizzly bears with local sponsors and artists. The fund raiser is a cooperative effort benefiting the Flathead Spay and Neuter Task Force, Human Therapy on Horseback and Stumptown Art Studio.The whimsically decorated bears will be displayed July 1 - August 8 in locations around Whitefish, Kalispell, Lakeside, Columbia Falls and West Glacier. ‘Bear locator maps’ are available which show where the bears are displayed. Beginning August 9th, a grand grizzly roundup will bring the bears together at Park Side Credit Union Park in downtown Whitefish.Parents are encouraged to bring their family to the ‘Great Bear Fair’ at the I.A. O’Shaughnessy Cultural Arts Center Saturday August 10th, and enjoy children’s games and activities while viewing the bears on display for the first time as a group. The bears will remain in the park until the grand finale auction September 12th at the new Majestic Valley Arena, to which the public is welcome. There will be food, refreshments, and demonstrations by the three nonprofit groups.
