Boone's Lick State Historic Site Website moparks@mail.dnr.state.mo.us Description: In 1804, Lewis and Clark noted the many saltwater spings in the area. Today, the Boone's Lick marks the largest of these salt springs. Daniel Morgan Boone began producing salt from this location and shipped it down the Missouri River to St. Louis and other cities. Today there are picnic tables and interpretive signs on-site for a relaxing and educational getaway. It is an oddly unique environment that was visited quite frequently by frontiersmen. Boone's Lick is rich in history.
