Family fun and fundraising events cross paths with the region's railroad past as Billings celebrates Depot Days Friday and Saturday, June 28 and 29. Presented once again by Avista Communications, the two-day event focuses not only on funding the operating expenses of the Billings Depot, but raising awareness of this integral piece of Billings' history and the current activity along historic Montana Avenue in Downtown Billings.The weekend festivities begin with the fundraising dinner and auction starting with a wine and beer reception at 6 p.m. at the Depot. Restoration of the Baggage Room portion of the building and east-end parking lot will be completed and this will be the inaugural event in the newly refurbished space. Dinner is served at 6:30 p.m. followed by the auction at 7:30 p.m. For the second year, the evening will be capped off with a ‘stroll’ among Montana Avenue nightspots. Discounts from participating clubs are included in the ticket price of $65 per person or $750 per table of ten.While the dinner and auction get underway at the Depot, the first embers of the Box Car BBQ will ignite across Montana Avenue in the parking lot of the REX. A second time event, this competition is sanctioned by several regional barbecue societies and, in addition to prizes, winners will be eligible for other major competitions. Cooking will continue Saturday when winners will be judged.Activities on Saturday, June 29 include a day of family entertainment and activities for children as well as music, food and beverage for adults at the Billings Depot.
