Description: At the Museum of the Rockies you can travel 4.5 billion years back through the Earth's history.
The Taylor Planetarium has state-of-the-art computer graphics and NASA-funded programs. Landforms/Lifeforms features the volcanism of Yellowstone National Park, the process of mountain formation and the beautiful Glacier National Park.
Mountains on the Move chronicles the last 200 years of Montana's history starting with the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1804. It displays artifacts that are scientifically verified from the Corps of Discovery.
Also enjoy and learn about life on a Montana Homestead where daily life is reenacted through the summer at a living history farm.
The Museum of the Rockies is nationally known for research on dinosaur nesting. Learn about a nesting colony that is 80 million years old!
The Bowman Fossil Bank is the home of a robotic Triceratops and her babies. You can compare them with a real skull next to them. This exhibit also features a Tyrannosaurus Rex excavated in 1990 and a cast of it's skill on display.
The Mammoths of the Great Ice Age showcases some of the best ice age fossils dating back to 3 million to 10,000 years ago. They include the giant short-faced bear, bison, wolf, ground sloth, camel, cheetah, mammoth, beaver and sabertooth cats. Most of these were collected from ancient riverbeds, lakes and caves in Montana.
Just for kids there is the Martin Discovery Room. They can have fun creating a building on the earthquake table and with the push of button can watch and see how an earthquake will effect their building. Of the many activities some include puzzles, reading, art projects and a playground filled with learning adventure.
The museum also holds birthday parties where you can chose one of four themes: Dinosaur, Wild West, Space, or Classic Birthday.
Don't forget to stop at the Museum Store to find great gifts to remember your visit! You will find apparel, toys, books, photos, videos and many more great gift ideas.
