Thomas L. and Tennie Greenough acted with incredible foresight when, on June 2, 1902, they approached the Missoula City Council with the gift of Greenough Park. Their intention was, to quote T.L. Greenough, that the land be forever used as a park and for park purposes, to which the people of Missoula may , during the heated days of summer, the beautiful days of autumn and the balmy days of spring find a comfortable, romantic and poetic retreat.Missoulian’s treasure Greenough Park and, because of careful stewardship, to this day it provides us with such a retreat. A day of celebration and education including nature walks, historic exhibits, cake and activities for all ages will commemorate the centennial. Come join us as we celebrate and enjoy this gift bestowed upon our city by the Greenough Family 100 years ago. This event is free and everyone is welcome
