Description: This area is historically noted as the area where Lewis and Clark had their first tribal council with Native Americans. Having opened in 1996, this 2,000 acre wildlife refuge is a joint federal and local conservation project to restore the natural environment along the Missouri river. Today, visitors to the refuge can experience the natural floodplain forest and grasslands that Lewis and Clark experienced 200 years ago. There are also numerous recreation and educational opportunities at the 2000 acre refuge. Outdoor enthusiast can experience nature walks, picnicking, bird watching, mountain biking, fishing, and canoeing The exhibits on display at this refuge detail the ecological and historical stories of this area.
