Description: The 2002 Missoula Woodcarving Seminar is scheduled for July 14-19. A special guest instructor and eight experienced instructors will conduct separate week long seminars. Additionally, four 2 1/2 day classes join the regular format to bring beginning techniques to interested students. The guest instructor, Bob Guge, World Class Bird Carver, will teach a cardinal class. Cleve Taylor will teach a poker scene of multiple caricature cowboys; David Sabol will offer instruction in a choice of storybook characters using his special technique of carving in wet pine. LeRoy Wesche will teach multiple characters in a Santa Scene; Bruce Sterling will teach a wood duck class; Dick Weber will teach NW Indian Totem Pole techniques; Doug Harrison will lead his class in development of a moose bust in marsh habitat; Charley Phillips will offer instruction in a choice of floral box or platter; Tom Moore will teach a Kachina, Zuni Salako class. The half week classes feature Mike Ferry returning to teach beginning caricature carving; Gary Ensign teaching bark carving; Larry Deedon, the popular air brush instructor; and instruction in power and pyrography techniques. Special acrylic painting of caricatures is offered by Rejeana Dunne in evening classes.The seminar offers classes for all levels of carvers from beginners to expert. Classes are conducted on the campus of the University of Montana in the University Center’s Ballroom. The carving area is large, air conditioned and is secured overnight. All seminar facilities are handicapped accessible.The maximum class size for most classes is 15 students. Classes are filled on a first-come first-serve basis with preregistration. Classes not reaching a minimum size of 8 by June 2 may have to be canceled with students reassigned to their next class choice. Send in registration early to have the beset opportunity for placement in a class that most interests you!
