The Pipe is Lit Website BigSkyMontana.us BigSkyMontana.us Description: Preservation Cascade, Inc., an organization which is dedicated to history and preservation, is sponsoring the production of an original musical comedy based on the life of Great Falls’ famous cowboy artist, Charlie Russell. The play ‘The Pipe is Lit’ was written in 1968 by Shubert Fendrich, with music and lyrics by Fendrich and Paul Hanselmann. With a cast of over twenty members, the leading characters, in addition to Charlie Russell, are Will Rogers, Jake Hoover and Nancy (Mamie) Russell. The play begins in 1876 and is set, not only in Montana, but includes scenes in St. Louis, New York City, England and Hollywood.There will be six performances of the play which will be held at the University of Great Falls Theatre, with performances on September 27th and 28th and October 4th and 5th at 7:30pm with matinees at 2:00pm on Sundays September 29th and October 6th.Preservation Cascade, Inc. board member and theatrical community leader Dixie Boland is in charge of planning this event.
