Description: On Saturday, July 19, 200 Alberton will present its 17th Annual Railroad Day to once again recall its glory years when the town was a crew chain point and a passenger stop on The Milwaukee Road. The coming event will be conducted under the auspices of Alberton American Legion Post 131. The day will begin at 8:00am with a pancake breakfast once again provided by our senior citizens in the Community Center is the old Milwaukee Road station which now has landmark status. At 11:00am, the annual parade will begin at the west end of town. It is hoped to have a record number of participants. During the day, there will be a model railroad exhibit, games for the children and many vendors offering their wares. Food and drink will be copiously available. For more information, write or call Walter E. Hilberg, P.O. Box 218 Alberton, Mt. 59820. Phone 406-722-4570.
The LewisAndClark200.com staff arrived in Alberton for the Parade. It was a beautiful Montana summer day, which shouted "Family Fun." The streets were filled with happy people, ice-cream smeared kids, and a few dogs with tails a wagging! There were gun-fighters from the old west in incredible costumes. They had a great Old time street front set, and put on several wonderful shows.
We all had BBQ sandwiches on the street. We were excited because Pangaea-Expeditions had promised us a float trip on the "Gorge." See: www.AlbertonGorge.com.
Just a few words about Pangaea. Ben is the new owner there. If you have never floated "the gorge," Pangaea is a small company who is entirely professional, in terms of equiptment, guides, and water safety. They also understand working very hard to tailor your trip to meet your needs and expectations. Three of us floated. Pangaea brought an ice chest with cold water, soft-drinks, and a few ice-cold beers (which we could not drink until after the last whitewater section of the river). They prepared a fresh vegetable crudite with a dip-dressing, and a cheese-ball with crackers. We landed at a shaded beach for lunch. Nothing has ever tasted better in our whole lives!!
At one turn of the river, there was a very small brand new baby black bear at river's edge drinking. It was sooooo cute. Mother had to be very near.
We saw bald eagles, osprey fishing, and numerous other birds. The fish were jumping and we wished we had brought poles.
We at LewisAndClark200 highly recommend Pangaea Expeditions..........FLOAT THE GORGE.......WITH PANGAEA!!!
