Description:
Fort Clatsop is one of the premier Lewis and Clark Tourism destinations near the mouth of the Columbia River. Fort Clatsop is between Astoria and Seaside.

Fort Clatsop National Memorial will be the centerpiece of the poposed Signature Event, Destination the Pacific. Fort Clatsop was the site of the Corps. of Discovery's winter residence in Oregon near Astoria and Seaside.

Fort Clatsop is a wonderful learning experience for the whole family. They have a great shuttle service in peak tourism season, so plan ahead! Starting June 14, 2004 Sunset Empire Transportation District and Pacific Transit System will begin operating the Lewis & Clark Explorer Shuttle for the 2004, 2005 and 2006 summer seasons. The shuttle connects Lewis & Clark sites in the region including Fort Clatsop National Memorial to communities from Long Beach, Washington to Cannon Beach, Oregon

More 'explorers' than usual from all over the country and around the world are coming to the region during the 2004-2006 Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commemoration. This innovative transportation system is designed to handle an increased volume of visitors during the Bicentennial years. It is a proactive solution to traffic and parking problems.

The current parking lot at the Fort Clatsop visitor center will be closed during the peak season (June 14 through September 6). Visitors should leave their cars at their lodging facilities or designated parking lots throughout the region and hop on the shuttle to visit Fort Clatsop. Most motels and campgrounds will be serviced by the shuttle.

Complete shuttle information will be available at local visitor centers, lodging facilities and bus shelters, or simply get online at www.ridethebus.org.

We certainly advocate visiting Oregon and Washington and Fort clatsop for Lewis and Clark and Sacagawea. The beauty of the Columbia Gorge, and the NW coast is breathtaking.
