Description: On June 20, 2002, the annual 1876 Grand Ball is held in the Fort Custer Stage Station, located on the Big Horn County Historical Museum complex in Hardin - Exit 497.The observers and participants are swept back in time by the authentic fashions, music, and dances of the late 1800’s. A prelude concert performed by the Montana Melodies opens the evening at 7pm, with the Grand Ball beginning at 7:30pm against a backdrop of authentic 1800’s music played by the California Gold Rush Band and Tarnished Brass.General George Armstrong Custer and his wife Libbie, along with many other distinguished officers and guests, lead the Grand March at 8:15pm. Dancing resumes after the march and continues until 11:00pm.To capture the occasion, modern and sepia photographers are on location to take photographs upon request. Refreshments of pie, lemonade, coffee, and ice water are sold by the Hardin Area Rainbow Chapter for Girls. Historical Society serves dinner!Period dress is required of all dancing participants. A detailed list of the dress requirements and local costume outlets are available upon request. Lessons for the 1800 dances are given the Wednesday night prior to the ball, from 7 to 9 in the Fort Custer Stage Station. Tickets for these lessons are $5.00 per person at the door on the day of attendance.1876 Grand Ball tickets are $15.00 per person for period-dressed participants.
