Description: art shows Bold Beasts — the Dramatic Art of Brenda Wolf Painter Brenda Wolf supplies a unique and powerful perspective of the animal kingdom—up close and personal. You won’t find misty scenic backgrounds in her works. Instead, Wolf captures an emotive vision of the beast. She uses a bold expressionistic style and vivid colors to transmit the power of her subjects. Working in a large format, often as big as four feet by five feet, this artist brings us face to face with the unique character of the untamed animal. “I want people to be able to relate to the animal, more than the scenery,” she explains. “I hope the viewer has an emotional reaction, perhaps even startling and visceral. I want to open their eyes to a new view with the hope that these animals will speak to them as they do to me.” Her art is a very close-up and personal voyage for Brenda as well as the viewer. While most artists prefer brushes, she finds that tool too distancing from the art. She utilizes oil stick paints she applies with her fingers, literally molding her vision onto the canvas. For this artist, creating is a very personal, “hands-on” experience. Brenda’s art has appeared in Architectural Digest and has shown at galleries in New York and Florida. Since moving to Montana, she has been featured in one-woman shows in Anaconda, and twice at Great Falls’ Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art. She displays her work annually at the Jay Contway Show during Great Falls’ art auction week in March. Brenda holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in graphic design from the School of Fine Arts in New York, and studied painting at Syracuse University. She is also an award-winning graphic designer.
