Description: In 1868 the area was searched for gold, only receiving attention in 1884. The town is named after Pete Zortman. Zortman was the second largest cyanide mill in the world . In 1864, gold was discovered in the area, including Landusky and Beaver Creek Mines, producing $25 million in gold. Almost all of Zortman’s original structures were brought down by forest fires. Zortman once again is attracting people with its historic past, scenery and promise of renewed mining activity.The most easterly of all Montana Gold producing areas.
