Fort Benton is located on the banks of the Missouri River in the "Golden Triangle" area of North Central Montana. Established in 1846 as an American Fur Company Trading Post, it is one of the oldest communities in Montana.
Fort Benton and the surrounding countryside is a beautiful area to visit. We are the gateway to the Wild and Scenic Upper Missouri River and only moments away from the Highwood Mountains and Square Butte Recreational Area.
Fort Benton offers you genuine small town friendliness. As you stroll down the levee and Front Street, you will find friendly people and inviting shops filled with everything a persons needs for their stay.
Frontier history comes alive in Fort Benton...let your imagination carry you away as you walk along the Steamboat Levee. Lewis & Clark & The Corp of Discovery walked on this same river bank almost two hundred years ago. Or Imagine of the sight of a dozen steamboats docked along the levee and the noise and clamor as their freight is loaded onto oxen trains soon bound for points through out the Northwest.
