Since that period the town became a regular stopping point for the emigrants heading westward. Today, the town looks much like it did in the mid-1800's. The State Interpretive Center explains the town's cultural heritage. Expect heavy visitor traffic during the summer and fall seasons. Another popular attraction is the annual Missouri arts festival held the third weekend of May. During the second weekend of October, check out the crafts festival.
