Description: The mission of the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation is to stimulate public appreciation of the Lewis and Clark Expedition's contributions to America's heritage, and to support education, research, development, and preservation of the Lewis and Clark experience With membership in all 50 states and several foreign countries, and chapters along the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail and elsewhere working to promote the story and protect the trail, we are the largest and oldest organization dedicated to the story of Lewis and Clark The Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation was incorporated in the State of Missouri in 1969. For over 30 years, the Foundation has been the pre-eminent organization coordinating efforts to promote the heritage of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The national headquarters office is located in Great Falls, Montana, and a public research library is maintained at the Forest Service Lewis and Clark Trail Interpretive Center, also in Great Falls. The Foundation publishes a quarterly journal, We Proceeded On, and periodically publishes other books about the Corps of Discovery. An annual meeting is held every summer along the Trail with field trips, seminars, lectures, and camaraderie. Our members work on projects along the trail and throughout the nation to bring the story alive. The Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation Library has about 800 book titles and 300 articles relating to the Lewis & Clark Expedition. Our library also has maps, genealogical information, We Proceeded On (1974-present), finding aids, sound, and video recordings. We are also the repository for Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation records. The Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation is a membership organization with 3200 members across the US and around the globe. Members receive a lively quarterly journal, We Proceeded On, filled with articles, book reviews and other information from historians and students of the expedition. Members also receive a quarterly newsletter filled with information from chapters, news from along the trail and other members. Members enjoy access to the Foundation's Library and Archives housed in the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail Interpretive Center. The opportunity to attend the annual meeting of the membership of the Foundation, which is held in August at trail locations across the country. Events include travel to historic sites, reenactments, lectures, seminars, performances, and fellowship with other Lewis and Clark enthusiasts, and the chance to rub shoulders with noted Lewis and Clark scholars. Optional membership in local foundation chapters provides an opportunity for field trips, organized programs and special events and projects.
