Description: A full-service Inn conceived to delight body and soul. All of the twenty five rooms have private baths; most have a porch or deck. The Inn is in Chilmark, Martha's Vineyard's smallest town, an up-Island residential community.
Ancient stone walls criss-cross the Inn's pasture, greeting you with the unmistakable signature of three centuries as a Chilmark farm. A clean and fragrant breeze comes over these hills from the gem-blue ocean beyond. There are 56 acres of open skies, songbirds and wild blueberries. Spring, summer and fall you are invited to walk among the ever-changing signs of the season: an early hint of fiddleheads, a blossoming butterfly weed, a flaming bettlebung.
Directions and/or Additional Information:
The Inn offers tennis, volleyball, croquet, boule and horeshoes, hiking the nature trails in the thousands of acres of abutting conservation land, swimming and sunning at the nearby beach, biking along country roads, or simply remembering what it was like to have time to open a book. In the fishing village of Menemsha, you can charter a boat for the day. The three down-island towns are rich in movies, plays, concerts, antique shops, galleries, restaurants and museums.
Guests have access to the exclusive private beaches of Chilmark - Lucy Vincent and Squibnocket. There is a shuttle in July and August for the four mile trip. At other times, guests may drive to the beach.
There are several short trails which are well marked and offer relaxing strolls. Marked areas are intended to protect several rare indigenous species. The Inn, along with several other private property owners, has formed the Mill Brook Trail Association which allows limited public access to several areas convenient to the Inn. These trails are unrefined and not well marked, but offer superb nature and bird viewing. In addition, there are miles and miles of hiking and biking trails throughout the Island. Information and maps for trails are available at the front desk. |
