World Museum Of Mining Website director@miningmuseum.org World Museum of Mining Description: HISTORY The World Museum Of Mining, a national historical site, is dedicated to preserving the mining, ethnic, and social history of Butte, Montana. The museum was started in 1963 by Butte people who wanted to preserve the city's historic mining tradition. The museum and village were built entirely with volunteer labor and donations. Hell Roarin' Gulch, an 1890's mining camp, nestled at the base of the towering Orphan Girl headframe.Once an active underground mine, the Orphan Girl is now the site of the 23-acre World Museum of Mining. This museum, with displays both indoors and outdoors, is a far cry from the quiet of a big city museum. If you are in Montana, don't miss The World Museum Of Mining. Directions and/or Additional Information: To visit the World Museum Of Mining, upon arriving in Butte, take the Montana Street exit(Exit126) from I-90. Follow Montana Street up to Historic Uptown Butte. When you reach Park Street, take a left and follow it all the way to the Montana Tech Campus. Drive past the campus and follow the signs to the World Museum of Mining.
