My first forkful of Belgian waffle, dripping with strawberries, almost didn't make it to my mouth. My attention was distracted by a huge freighter that seemed about to cruise into my lap, filling the windows before me as it passed only yards away, serenely making its way up the Columbia River. Try something a little different. Located only 20 minutes from downtown Portland or the Lloyd Center/Convention Center area, this Bed & Breakfast offers peace, quiet and relaxation. The inn is on the bank of the Columbia River on Sauvie Island, a hamlet devoted to farming and wildlife.

Escape to a quiet, rural setting less than a half hour away from downtown Portland. Enjoy breathtaking sunrises ... watch the river traffic ... gaze at a variety of birds and waterfowl ... all from the privacy of a spacious deck only 150 feet from the Columbia River.

Warm hospitality and comfortably casual surroundings are offered year round. Take a walk along the beach, visit the nearby Wildlife Areas or stay "in" and read, watch videos or play games...Fax and copy services are available for the business traveler...Whatever you choose to do on Sauvie Island, River's Edge is the perfect place to stay!

The comfortable guest area has a large living room area, kitchenette, 2 bedrooms with queen beds, and a bathroom with tub and shower. The entrance is only steps away from the parking area, and there is a private patio right outside the back door.

$110 for a guaranteed private bath
$139 for both bedrooms

All rates include full use of the whole guest area, plus a hearty family-style breakfast served on the second floor with the host family.

On November 4, 1805.... "The party camped on an island. Lewis borrowed a small canoe from local indians and with four men took her to a lake on the island, where they enjoyed an after-dark hunt. The lake was teeming with swans, brants, geese, and ducks."

Directions and/or Additional Information:
From Portland: Go North on I-5; take the St. Helens exit and continue Northwest on US 30 (St. Helens Road) approximately 9 miles to the Sauvie Island bridge. Cross the bridge and loop underneath to Gillihan Road. Continue 5.5 miles from the bridge to a large white house on the right.
