Description: The byway provides access to portions of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail... retrace the footprints of the Expedition. The roads are single lane, with occasional pullouts for passing. They are gravel surface which can be driven safely in an automobile. Grades in some areas exceed five percent. Snow usually closes the roads from November until June. Directions and/or Additional Information: Getting there: The Lewis and Clark Back Country Byway and Adventure Road is located in Lemhi County, about 20 miles southeast of Salmon, Idaho. Turn east from State highway 28 at the Tendoy intersection. The Byway is 39 miles long and takes about a half-day drive.
