Description: The Pioneer Museum is supported by Valley County, the Historical Society, and Friends of the Museum. The theme ‘From Dinosaur Bones to Moonwallk’ is a progressive history relating to Valley County and its people with authentic artifacts woven into historic displays. These displays include the Chief First to Fly Indian collection, dioramas, murals, pictures of pioneers, and the Stan Kalinski room with ornate cherry wood bar and collection of 220 animal and bird mounts. A machinery lot across the street boasts many remnants of an earlier day. Available at the Museum is the Valley County Transit Tour. Take the loop with our ‘Teens in Tourism’ guides and learn about the rich heritage and culture of Valley County. They will visit with you about the building of Fort Peck Dam; one of the largest earth filled dams in the world, agricultural history, Lewis and Clark, and the people who made Valley County what it is today. Sites which will be visited are: Fort Peck Hotel, Lewis and Clark Overlook, Fort Peck Theatre, Leo B. Coleman Wildlife Exhibition Pasture, Powehouses and Museum, and Spillway. Tour begins at 8:30am with a short film depicting the construction of the Fort Peck Dam being shown. The bus leaves from the Museum at 9:00am."
