Annual Gatemouth Brown Blues & Jazz Festival Website jazzz@in-tch.com BigSkyMontana.us BigSkyMontana.us Description: The Annual Gatemouth Brown Blues & Jazz Festival includes ongoing fund-raising and outreach programs of the Butte Jazz Society focus on creating opportunities in music education for low income students. Because Butte students do not have the option of formal music education until the seventh grade, their opportunities are limited now and in the future for scholarships, education, and professional options. The Butte Jazz Society sponsors concerts, workshops, Youth Jazz Camps and formal music lessons throughout the year to make possible the ideal of music education for all students regardless of their ability to pay related fees. The Society also solicits donations of music instruments to refurbish for low-income students. Several Outreach events are scheduled throughout the year to develop a wider interest and necessary community consensus for the importance of arts education for all students.For fun, sun, food and activities for the kids; regional artists are showing their wares; and lots of diverse jazz talents and school bands will perform again under the big tent.Guest musicians and educators will present the history of jazz in Butte and will discuss the various significant Jazz eras and the evolution of the genre from Dixieland through Bebop, Swing, and Blues. Workshops will be free to the public.This is the largest Jazz Festival in the state with more events, music, performers and activities.
