Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center Website info@columbiagorge.org Salmon Dipping Description: WE ARE PROUD to introduce to you the Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center, the newest museum in Washington. Located at Stevenson, Washington, near the center of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, our museum is ideally situated to interpret and exhibit the natural and cultural history of this beautiful region. MORE THAN 11,000 square feet of exhibition space describing the area's cultural and natural history is housed within the Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center. Exhibits are supplemented by audiovisual presentations illustrating events that shaped Skamania County, Washington, Oregon and the Columbia River Gorge. Our exhibits were designed by internationally renowned Jean Jacques André of Victoria, British Columbia. The exhibits are supplemented by films and audio-visual presentations illustrating events shaping Skamania County, Washington, and the Columbia River Gorge. Fabricated rock walls were molded from the dramatic basalt cliffs of the Gorge; a multimedia presentation shows the cataclysmic events that formed them. Exhibits highlight the cultural diversity of Gorge inhabitants from the first Native Americans to the Japanese, Chinese and other nationalities who arrived in the 19th century. A section titled "Spiritual Quest" gives visitors an intimate look at the unique characters who made Stevenson and Skamania County their home. A museum store features books, distinctive gift items and collectibles commemorating the Gorge and the Center. Take the virtual tour! Directions and/or Additional Information: The Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center is located on the outskirts of Stevenson, Washington, From Vancouver, enjoy a 45 minute scenic drive east on State route 14, and watch for our sign a mile and a half beyond the Bridge of the Gods. From the Oregon side of the river, you can reach us via I-84 by exiting at Cascade Locks and crossing the Bridge of the Gods.
