Bannack State Park Website Description: Bannack State Park is a well-preserved ghost town - the first territorial capital of Montana. This town grew quickly after the first sightings of gold in 1862. The town quickly subsided when the gold prospectors moved on. The main street illustrates the historical nature of Montana in the state's earliest years of settlement. The numerous wooden/log buildings along main street are all listed as a National Historic Landmark.
