Milk River Website BigSkyMontana.us BigSkyMontana.us Description: The Milk River heads at St. Mary’s Lake in Glacier Park going into Canada 15 miles east of the port of entry at Del Bonita. It meanders north of the border skirting the town of Milk River, and enters Montana about 20 miles west of the Wild Horse port of entry north of Havre. From here, it flows into Fresno Dam, on through Havre and dumps into the Missouri River east of the Fort Peck Dam. The Milk River Wildlife Management Area encompasses 382 acres in Area 7 and Area 8 has 961 acres. Management goal: To provide riparian/wetland habitats for wildlife, particularly waterfowl, and to provide public recreational opportunities.Hunting opportunities: Hunting opportunities exist for waterfowl, upland birds and deer. For safety reasons, deer hunters are allowed to hunt only with shotgun, muzzleloader or bow and arrow.Wildlife viewing: White-tailed deer, upland game birds, furbearers and numerous small mammals are present on the Wildlife Management Area year-round. Waterfowl, shorebirds, raptors and a host of songbirds can be seen during much of the year."
