SPORTSMAN'S ROOST LODGE
Welcome to the Sportsmen's Roost Lodge.
We are located in Shoup Idaho's prime hunting, fishing and vacationing country. Our Lodge sits overlooking Idaho's Salmon River, more commonly called the "River of No Return.
The quiet setting of the Lodge, perched on a mountain, is the perfect place to get away from it all.
With kitchen units, standard 2 bed rooms and open bay sleeping areas, the complete Lodge, with its 3-1/2 baths, is configured to accommodate individual parties of 1 to 4, as well as groups as large as 30. All in all, the Lodge is primarily a multiple-building two-story compound with private bedrooms, shared baths and soothing common-lounging areas.
The eastern side of the Main Lodge has 2 bathrooms, 4 private bedrooms, (one is a kitchenette), and first and second story lounging areas. The main section of the Lodge has on the upper floor a full dining room, living room, a private bedroom and a vintage full bath. The lower level sports a half bath/utility room, a 2 bed bedroom and a 4 bed open bay sleeping area. This portion of the Lodge is ideal for families with active kids or for unisex groups.
Meal preparation by Lodge Staff can be arranged, but for those who prefer preparing their own cuisine, the kitchens are fully furnished.
Our upper and lower level separate buildings can accommodate up to four vacationers with our lower level building providing that rough and rustic setting desired by our more hearty guests.
For those who enjoy fishing, hunting (both big game and upland bird), hiking, rock climbing, white water rafting or just relaxing, the area surrounding the Lodge provides for exciting and unique adventures in an area explored in 1805 by the Lewis and Clark "Corps of Discovery."
From the North Fork right down to Road's End at the threshold of the "Frank Church 'River of No Return' Wilderness" the vacationer will find much of interest.
Numerous abandoned Hard Rock Gold Mines, historic Indian encampments, wildlife, including Elk, Bear, Mountain Goats, and Big Horn Sheep, can be easily visited or observed. Other historical sites include McKay Creek (a mining claim of Sam James - Brother of Jessie and Frank), the Shoup Store and Cafe, which is famous for its great milk shakes, the Gold Hill Mine - offering daily tours from June 1 through September 1, and just 4-1/2 miles west of Our Lodge, the Sheep-eater Archeology Site.
Just glancing around and taking in the views from the Lodge's decks, one can only wonder what the members of the Clark lead element of Corps of Discovery wondered as they explored the vast and beautiful area that surrounds Our Lodge.
What would you have thought when the Shoshone Indians noted that to continue down the Salmon River past Pine Creek Rapids meant "no return."
